Although SMS is overshadowed by so many messengers, it is still valuable and useful. Many users rely on them and the text on a daily basis. Some of these users had problems with SMS messages that didn’t work on Android.
If you experience similar problems, see below for applicable solutions.

Why don’t I get a message from my phone when I receive text messages?
1. Check reporting parameters
You must first check your notification settings. It is likely that the messages have been disabled or are silent. When you are sure that the notifications are working as expected, check the SMS messages.
Here is what you need to do to activate notifications:
- First, make sure that the DND function is deactivated.
- Open the settings.
- Select Applications and Communications.
- Select your SMS application from the list of available applications.
- Click on Notifications.
- Make sure all options are enabled. .
2. Check the parameters in annex
Some exchange programs offer different parameters and preferences within these programs. Check these settings and make sure everything is in order. There may be a problem with the application settings.
- Open your SMS application.
- Open the settings.
- Make sure that all notification options are enabled.
- You can also check the message centre and make sure the number is correct.
If text messages still don’t work on your Android, go to the next step.
3. Set your default SMS client.
This is important, especially if you are using a third-party messaging application instead of a pre-installed one. To access incoming messages and notify you, you need to make it the default SMS application.
Here you will learn how to select the default SMS application:
- Open the settings.
- Open requests and notifications.
- Scroll down and open the standard applications. For some Android skins open the All applications menu > 3 clicks > Default applications.
- In the SMS section, select a message application that you want to use.
4. Delete cache and retrieve data
You can also reset the application. This can be done (as in any other application) by emptying the cache and local data.
To clear the cache and the data from the standard SMS application, follow these steps
- Open the settings.
- Select Applications and Communications.
- Widen all requests.
- Open your standard application for sending SMS messages.
- Use the memory.
- Delete the cache and the data.
- Restart your device.
- Reinstall it as the default SMS sending application.
5. Reinstalling or uninstalling the application– Updates
If the problem persists and no notification is received, try reinstalling or disabling / reactivating the application. Don’t forget that you can’t uninstall or even temporarily disable certain applications from the system. In this case, you can simply replace it with a third party application.
- Back to Settings > Applications & Notifications > All Applications > SMS Application.
- Press Disable and uninstall Updates (system applications cannot be completely uninstalled) or remove them if possible.
- Restart the device and reactivate the SMS application.
- Then open the Play Store and reinstall or update the application.
6. Resetting the unit to factory settings
If everything goes wrong, your last resort is to reset your device to factory settings. First make sure your firmware is up to date. Maybe that’ll solve the problem. If this doesn’t work, back up your media on your PC (or Google Pictures) and set it up on Google Drive. This will facilitate recovery. And once you’re done, follow these steps to return the device to factory settings.
- Do it gently.
- Open the settings.
- Select the system.
- Press Reset Settings.
- Select Delete All (reset to factory settings).
- Confirm your choice.
In that sense, you could call it a diploma. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for such articles.
