5. Start the Windows diagnostic tool

  1. Go to Settings, then Updates & Security.
  2. In the left pane, select Troubleshooting.
  3. In the new window, go to the Search section and fix the other problems.
  4. Select Hardware and Devices, and then Troubleshoot.

Windows 10 Creators Update has a special built-in troubleshooter that helps solve common PC problems. You can also use this tool to resolve the write_fault error.

If you are using an older version of Windows, you can download the Microsoft utility Easy Fix to fix various software and hardware problems. The tool is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.

6. Check disk for errors

  1. Run the command line as administrator.
  2. Type the following command and press Enter: chkdsk C: /f
  3. Replace C with the partition letter of the hard disk.

In Windows 10, you can run a disk scan from the command line.

Reminder: If you do not use the /f parameter, chkdsk will print a message that the file needs to be repaired, but will not fix the errors. Chkdsk Dee: /f detects and repairs logical problems on your hard drive. To correct physical problems, also use the /r parameter.

7. Delete temporary files and folders

  1. Go to Start, type Disk Cleanup and start the program.
  2. Select the drive you want to erase.
  3. The tool shows you how much space you can free up.
  4. Select Delete System Files.

The easiest and fastest way to remove temporary files and folders is to clean up your drive. While using a computer or browsing the internet, your computer collects various unnecessary files.

There is no button on your computer to clean the hard drive? Learn how to get it back easily in this special guide.

These unwanted files can affect the speed of data processing on your computer and slow down the operation of applications. They can also cause various error codes, including the error code ERROR_WRITE_FAULT.

We have written a great article on the best software to remove unwanted files from a Windows 10 PC. Definitely going to check it out!

You can delete the temporary files and then try writing data to the problematic storage device again.

Learn how to use Disk Cleanup in Windows 7:

  1. Go to the starting line.
  2. Type Disk Cleanup and open it.
  3. In the Disk Cleanup section, select Clean up System Files and select the disk you want to clean up, then click OK.
  4. On the Disk Cleanup tab, select the check boxes for the file types you want to remove and click OK.
  5. Select Delete files.

8. Memory clearance

Many users have confirmed that they were able to resolve this error code by freeing up memory on the disk.

Besides cleaning up temporary files and folders, there are other ways to free up space on your computer.

For example, you can B. Remove unnecessary applications, defragment the hard drive, delete duplicate files and much more.

For more information on how to get a few extra megabytes of hard drive space, check out our special article on the best ways to free up hard drive space.

9. Check hard disk rights.

  1. Log in as administrator and select the problematic drive.
  2. Right-click, then go to Properties and select the Security tab.
  3. Then click on the Advanced button.
  4. In the new window, click Users, and then Edit Permissions.
  5. Select the user again and click Edit.
  6. Under Basic Permissions, select the Full Control check box, then select Good.

The system cannot write to the error code of the specified device. You may also not have the necessary permissions to access the player or parts of it.

In that case, check the permissions for the respective drive and change them to full access. So you have changed the permissions to give all users full control.

This should solve the problem. Note, however, that these settings will revert to their default values when you restart the computer or change users.

10. Disk format

  1. Go to the Start menu and type Disk Management.
  2. Select the Disk Management Utility.
  3. Right-click the drive you want to format and select Format.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to further customize the formatting process.
  5. Then click OK in the warning window.

If none of the above solutions work, try formatting the problematic drive. Formatting and resetting the hard drive to its default settings should solve this problem.

Remember that formatting a drive means deleting all the files and folders on that drive.

If you can’t format your drive for some reason, see this article about drives that can’t be formatted in Windows 10.

We hope the above solutions have helped you resolve the ERROR_WRITE_FAULT error.

If you have found other solutions to this problem, please help the Windows community by providing troubleshooting steps in the comments below.
