Live wallpapers are a great way to bring your iPhone’s lock screen to life. Not only are they beautiful, but there’s something beautiful about bringing static wallpaper to life. Unfortunately, some users can’t get it to work. Reports indicate that they are unable to install Live Wallpaper on iPhone no matter what they do.
The first thing to understand is that Live Wallpaper only works on the lock screen (Dynamic Wallpaper runs animations on both). Therefore, follow these steps to try and resolve the problem.
Table of contents :
- Restart your iPhone
- Turn off the energy saving mode
- Disabling the traffic calibration alarm
- Make sure 3D touch and haptics are enabled.
- Try it with other wallpapers.
Why is the live wallpaper not working on my iPhone?
If you can’t install the wallpaper on your iPhone, make sure it’s no older than the iPhone 6S (or iPhone 6S Plus) and only works on devices that use 3D Touch (i.e. not the original iPhone SE and iPhone XR). Next, you need to check the power saving mode, motion shutdown, 3D and haptic touch.
If the problem persists, update the device and look for improvements.
1. Restart your iPhone
The first thing you can try is to reboot the device. It may be a temporary system failure, and a simple reboot is usually the best solution.
So reboot your iPhone and try the live wallpapers again. If the problem persists, take further action.
2. Deactivate low-power mode
It’s important to note that wallpapers, even if they only appear on the lock screen, are high on the list of most power-hungry iOS features. So, if you have activated the power saving mode, the living wallpaper will be turned off automatically. The battery saving mode is even automatically activated when the battery capacity is less than 20%.
This feature temporarily reduces the application’s background activity, disables automatic email collection and loading, and reduces the number of GUI elements. The latter includes turning off the live background to save some power.
So, if you want your wallpaper to work, make sure you turn off power saving mode. Here’s how to do it the easy way:
- Open the settings.
- Sensor battery.
- Turn off power save mode.
3. Disable the movement restriction
Another option that affects the functionality of wallpapers is the Reduce Motion option. This is the accessibility option that, when enabled, reduces the movement of the user interface. These include parallax icon effects, live wallpapers and some application animations.
Make sure this option is disabled before proceeding to the next step. Find out how to turn off motion restriction on your iPhone:
- Open the settings.
- Press accessibility.
- Select the movement.
- Turn off reduced traffic.
4. Make sure the 3D touch and haptic function is enabled.
As you probably know, live wallpapers only work on the lock screen and only when you touch and hold the wallpaper to start the animation. They don’t work (the background image is stationary) when 3D & Touch is turned off.
So make sure 3D Touch is enabled for the live background to work. Learn how to enable 3D and Haptic Touch on your iPhone:
- Open the settings.
- Press accessibility.
- Tap. Tap.
- Select 3D & Haptic Touch.
- Make sure 3D Touch is enabled, select the sensitivity and duration. So you can test what you want without leaving the 3D & Haptic Touch settings.
5. Try with other wallpapers
Finally, if the current wallpaper doesn’t work, try another one or even switch to dynamic wallpapers. The difference between Live Wallpaper and Dynamic Wallpaper :
- Dynamic wallpapers don’t need to be touched to come to life.
- The dynamic wallpaper includes animations on both the lock screen and home screen.
- The live background image is more likely to destroy the game, but that’s a matter of taste.
You can also try the inLive application (found in the App Store here). It allows you to create your own Live Photos which you can then install as Live Wallpaper.
After all, it may be a minor bug, and if you keep your iPhone’s firmware up to date, you may find a solution. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and check for updates.
