There are a number of ways in which you can fix Error 97 on your Android device, but you should first understand what Error 97 actually is. Error 97 is a message that displays on your Android phone that states, “Error 97: SMS Origination Denied. The SIM card or phone number is not allowed to send or receive MMS messages.” When you first see Error 97, it might seem like something is seriously wrong with your phone, but in most cases, Error 97 is simply a problem with your cellular carrier.

We have all been there. You tap that send button on your messaging app and wait for the little bubble to pop up on your screen. It is agonizing. Especially when you are sending an important message, like “I am running late” or “I am stuck at work, and I can’t get out for dinner.” Your phone pings and you get a message saying “SMS Origination denied.” So what do you do?

SMS is one of the fastest, easiest and most reliable ways to send short messages. But like everywhere, messaging apps on smartphones cause problems for technology users.

A common error Android users encounter is the 97 SMS origination denied error when trying to send a message.

We have explained here what is the error 97 SMS origination denied and the six ways to correct it.

As mentioned above, users see this error message when they try to send a message but fail. The error 97 SMS detection denied usually occurs for the following three main reasons.

  • Cache problems : A corrupted cache can cause an error that prevents users from sending text messages to some or all users.
  • Memory problems: As in the above case, corrupted data can also interfere with the messaging application and prevent messages from being sent.
  • Problems with networks : Another important factor that can cause the 97 error on Android is the mobile network.

Follow the methods below to resolve the error message 97 SMS origination denied on your Android device.

Clear cache and memory

Open your Android device’s settings and follow the steps below to clear the app cache.

  • Tap Apps and notifications
  • On the next page, if you have used the application recently, it appears at the top of the Recently Opened Applications section. Otherwise, click the Show all applications option. Then find the name of the application whose cache you want to clear and click it.
  • On the next page, tap Memory and cache.
  • Then click on Clear Cache.

Once the application’s cache is cleared, you will see that the Clear Cache option is no longer available and the value next to Cache in the Usable Space section is now zero.

The first time you clear the cache, the application may be a bit slow, but the next times you start the application, it will be relatively fast because the application rebuilds the cache automatically.

If this does not resolve the 97 SMS origination denied error, you can also clear the application memory on the same page and try again.

Restart the device

Restarting the unit can solve most of the problems encountered. A simple restart will clear any cached files or background processes that may interfere with the normal operation of the email application.

Since this is one of the simplest methods to solve the 97 SMS origination denied error, we recommend that you restart your Android device before proceeding with relatively more complex solutions.

If restarting does not work, put the device into power saving mode by turning it off for about a minute and then on again.
